Your Mission
We are seeking a dynamic and visionary Software Engineering Manager to lead our innovation initiatives from Pune, India. This role will drive the development of next-generation technologies, including APIs, AI, and digital manufacturing solutions, in close collaboration with global teams and the Sandvik Intelligent Manufacturing Innovation Hub.
This role is the first key hire in this new organization. It is a foundational role combining technical leadership, team building and project delivery.
Your Key Responsibilities
🧑🤝🧑 Team Structuring & Management
- Act as the first local hire and actively contribute to building the team: recruitment, onboarding, and skill development
- Lead, and mentor a high-performing team of developers and engineers in Pune
- Define and implement working methods, tools, and rituals to foster a strong engineering culture
- Manage a multidisciplinary team (developers, testers, DevOps) as it grows
- Create a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performance work environment
- Support career development, conduct regular feedback sessions, and promote team learning
- Actively build and develop synergies with teams across Sandvik, Metrologic Group and DCS, serving as a key interface with the Sandvik Intelligent Manufacturing Innovation Hub and other global R&D units.
💻 Technical Leadership & Knowledge Sharing
- Serve as the local technical reference: enforce best practices, and ensure code quality
- Translate functional requirements into technical solutions and contribute to feasibility analysis and effort estimation
- Mentor and support developers in their daily work, promoting a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement
- Lead code reviews, document best practices, and contribute to onboarding and training
- Participate in architectural roadmap discussions and ensure harmonization of components across the product
- Stay current with technological trends and propose relevant innovations
- Contribute to and execute the R&D strategy defined in collaboration with Metrologic Group and DCS headquarters
📦 Project Delivery & Global Collaboration
- Organize and lead the team’s work to ensure on-time, high-quality delivery: planning, prioritization, and progress tracking
- Operate in an agile environment (Scrum, Kanban) in close collaboration with product owners, QA, and integration teams
- Define and execute test protocols, ensure proper documentation, and deliver code to QA
- Provide clear and regular reporting to the R&D Directors in Metrologic Group and DCS and to other global stakeholders
- Act as the local relay for the product vision and technical priorities defined by headquarters
- Collaborate with international teams in France and the USA on cross-functional projects, ensuring alignment and knowledge sharing
- Drive improvement/improvisations in technology development processes as appropriate working with the broader organization
- Maintain effective communication both verbal & written with team members and cross-functional departments.
- Manage and develop team capability & capacity in targeted areas as part of organization profit plans.
- Drive continuous improvements to processes / procedures to facilitate faster technology development and adoption
Your Profile
💼 Education & Experience
- Master’s degree (or equivalent) in computer science, software engineering, or a related field
- Minimum 10+ years of experience in software development, including 3+ years in a technical leadership role
- Proven experience in industrial software development with structured lifecycle processes
- Experience in building or structuring a team is a strong asset
- Previous exposure to international or cross-site collaboration is a plus
️🛠 Technical Skills
- Solid understanding of programming in C++ and object-oriented
- Solid understanding of modern software architectures (microservices, cloud, CI/CD pipelines)
- Deep knowledge of software quality practices: automated testing, code reviews, continuous integration
- Experience with agile development methodologies (Scrum, Kanban)
- Ability to contribute across the full stack of a complex software product
- Familiarity with version control systems and collaborative development tools
- Project management and team management
